Deputy Chief of Administration - Raymond GuzmanSoon after his birth at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, Raymond Guzman’s family moved to the Hawaiian Islands.  They later relocated to northern California where Ray grew up and graduated from Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, California.  He followed his passion for architecture and construction by enrolling in Carpenter’s Local 751/Santa Rosa Junior College Vocational Apprentice Program where he studied to become a Master Carpenter.  Ray earned his General Contractors License and began building residential and commercial projects throughout Sonoma County.

Chief Guzman took the oath to serve the citizens and visitors of the City and County of San Francisco as he graduated from the 73rd Recruit Academy of the San Francisco Fire Department.  As a 27 year veteran, Chief Guzman has held the rank of Firefighter, Chief’s Aide, Lieutenant, Captain and Battalion Chief.  Chief Guzman was instrumental in resurrecting the Department’s Personal Water Craft Rescue Program that has saved many lives in the bay waters surrounding the City of San Francisco.  Some of Chief Guzman’s certifications include: Heavy Rescue Systems 1 and 2, Hazmat Tech/Spec, Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, various State Fire Marshal certifications and K38 Open Water Rescue.

Chief Guzman sits on the Bay Area UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) governance body, an eleven member Approval Authority that provides policy direction and is responsible for final decisions regarding projects and funding.  UASI Programs enhance regional emergency preparedness by assisting with supplemental funding to build and sustain capabilities in support of National Preparedness Guidelines.
