Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White will be acknowledging three Deputy Sheriffs for their heroic acts at the upcoming Fire Commission Meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 12, 2010.

On Monday, June 14, 2010, a taxi cab carrying a couple from Ohio that had just landed at San Francisco International Airport was traveling on Highway 280.  Unbeknownst to the driver, the brakes caught on fire.  Upon exiting the freeway the cab struck a concrete pillar.  The Deputies followed the vehicle and, without regard for their own safety, quickly came to the aid of the taxi driver and the two passengers in the burning vehicle.  Because of these quick actions, the victims were expeditiously removed from the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames.

The three Deputies, Christopher Sheriff, Zaldy Ralleta and Robert Rood suffered non life-threatening injuries as a result of their selfless act.
