NERT GRADUATE EVENTS CALENDAR

ALL NERTs invited to all on-going training and activities. Certain training has pre-requisite training as noted below. Please RSVP to participate

2014 Calendar

January

18th: SFPD ALERT training
         Pre-registration required

20th: MLK Freedom Parade Assistance, South of Market, 8am-4pm

24th: NEN Awards - City Hall, 6:00pm-8:00pm

25th: NERT sponsored Ham Cram. Get your amateur radio license in one day. ($30)

28th: NERT Triage Drill. SFFD DOT* 6:00pm to 9:30pm.
         Register as "Triage Rescuer" (NERT Grads Only) 6:00pm or "Triage Victim" (Non-NERTs) 5:30pm 

February

1st: Intro to NERT Communications Team (NCT) 101-103, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., SFFD DOT*   

4th: NERT Communications 201: Messaging 6:30pm-9:30pm, SFFD DOT*

15th: Neighborhood Coordinator/Leadership College, 8:30am-4:00pm, SFFD DOT*
         This is designed for new coordinators or NERT grads who are interested in taking a more active
         role in your neighborhood team. All teams are looking for Block Captains

18th: NERT Communications 301: Hands-on buttons & knobs & antennas, 6:30pm-9:30pm, SFFD DOT*

19th: NERT Communications 401: Hands on message passing and Scribing, 6:30pm-9:30pm, SFFD DOT*
         Talk, talk, talk, listen, listen, listen, write, write, write. Practice sending and receiving radio messages.
          Improve your communications and messaging skills. A valuable skill for NERTs. Ham license required.
          Register

20th: NERT Communications 501: NET Control for NERT staging area, 6:30pm-9:30pm, SFFD DOT*
         Learn Net Control procedures and avoid "cross-talk" in a Staging Area. A Ham Operator, acting as
         Net Control, regulates the flow of radio traffic coming from multiple NERT Field Teams into a Staging Area
         This is a skill that must be learned and practiced. Join us for this new addition to the NERT Communications
         training. Ham License required. Join us for this new addition to the NERT communications training.
         Prerequisites: NCT 101-401

26th: NERT Coordinators and Leaders Meeting. 6:30pm-8:30pm, SFFD DOT*

March

1st: Disaster Operations I, 8:30am-3:30pm, SFFD DOT* 
       Learn how to put ICS into practice in a classroom setting

4th: ICS Forms workshop. All NERT grads welcome. 7:00p-8:30pm, SFFD DOT*
       Review each NERT ICS Form. The forms are crucial for safety and accountability.

12th: NERT Communications 601: Social Media, 6:30pm-9:30pm, SFFD DOT*
         Social Media is a great tool for preparedness and is playing an increasing role in response.
         You will need a registered Twitter name prior to attending and you will need to bring your own device.
         All NERT Grads Welcome! No HAM license required. Pre-requisite: NCT 201

15th: St. Patrick's Day Parade (NERT marching Unit)
         Meet at 2nd and Market Street at 10:30am. 
         The NERT Unit will be directly behind the Firefighters Local 798

         In preparedness, you increase your ability to recover. Join us for this new class!

22nd: Disaster Operations II. 8:30am-3:30pm, SFFD DOT* 
          Pre-requisite: Disaster Operations I

25th: Staging area drill, 6:00pm-9:30pm, SFFD DOT* 
         Put your neighborhood command center ICS to practice in preparation for the Citywide drill in April.

29th: 2nd Annual Tsunami Awareness Walk, Marina Green@ Scott Street to Marina Library, 10:30a-1:00p
          The walk marks the end National Tsunami Preparedness Week (March 23 – 29)
          We are building on last year’s success to emphasize that tsunami’s can also affect the Bay neighborhoods
          The walk will end with a mini-preparedness fair at the Marina Branch Library

12th: NERT Citywide drill - Register! Everett Middle School, 17th Street near Sanchez, 8:30am-3:00pm
         Friends of NERT who want to volunteer to be a victim, click HERE. When you open the link, please
         read instructions carefully before registering.

May 

3rd: SFPD ALERT Training
        Pre-registration required

10th: Intro to NERT Communications Team (NCT) 101-103, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., SFFD DOT*
         Newly licensed or planning on getting your own HAM call sign? This introductory class has
         something for everyone—from HAM radios to cables to antennas and more.
         No HAM License required to attend. NERT Field Teams will communicate to NERT Staging Areas
         using HAM radios. Any HAM operators wanting disaster communication instruction are welcome after lunch.

14th: NERT Communications 201: Messaging 6:30pm-9:30pm, SFFD DOT*
         Improve your communications and messaging skills. Learn how to write a short, effective emergency message
         using scene size-up. A valuable skill for every NERT. Emergency messages include five key elements: Identify,
         Location, Condition, Action, and Needs—become familiar with I.L.C.A.N. Class open to all NERT Grads!
         (No Ham license or radio required to attend.)

         The Golden Gate Park Band honors NERT & CERT volunteers, 1:00pm, Golden Gate Park Music Concourse
         (Band shell). Bring a picnic lunch at noon. It’s-It Ice Cream provided by donation from the Rotary Club.
 
July

        Learn how NERT neighborhood teams work and how to organize or support a neighborhood group. Leadership
        college is for new Coordinators, and any NERT graduates thinking about being a NERT leader or vital part of
        a neighborhood team

5th: National Night Out - support SFPD in this community friendly Nationwide event and help get the word of

23rd: NERT Workshop: Plan & Play 8:30am-1:00pm, SFFD DOT*
          All NERTs are invited to this workshop in planning a real-time drill. using drill-in-a-box tools, plan a
          tabletop drill and put it on! This workshop is excellent practice for planning neighborhood drills as well
          as exercises for meetings and team events

         Volunteer leaders are the backbone of NERT. Want to be more involved in NERT leadership? Meet NERT
         Coordinators from all over the City. All NERT grads are welcome.

13th: Disaster Operations I, 8:30am-3:30pm, SFFD DOT*
         Learn how to manage a response and put ICS into practice in a classroom setting using
         the NERT Field Operations Guide (FOG) 
         Register

20th: Disaster Operations II, 8:30am-3:30pm, SFFD DOT* Prerequisite: Disaster Operations I
         This class focuses on incident handling , information flow and field team operational planning for the NERT
         staging area. Register

30th: ICS Forms workshop. All NERT grads welcome. 6:30p-8:30pm, SFFD DOT*
         Review each NERT ICS Form. The forms are crucial for safety and accountability.

18th: the Loma Prieta 25th Anniversary October Drill - REGISTER 
 
* SFFD DOT is the Division of Training @ 19th Street/Folsom. (enter through yard on 19th and park along back wall) 
     Division of Training classroom is in the 1-story building directly next to the Fire Station on the corner
