San Francisco Fire Department Holds Press Conference
Seeking Help to Find Bone Marrow Donor for Child of San Francisco Firefighter
Two year-old Harrison Leonardo, son of a San Francisco Firefighter, has spent nearly half of his life fighting Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). After enjoying two months of living cancer free, his family recently received devastating news that his cancer has returned and he is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.
San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, Assemblywoman elect Fiona Ma, SF Asian Firefighters Association, SF Firefighters Local 798 and the Asian American Donor Program will be holding a Press Conference to announce when and where prospective donors can go to get a simple cheek swab, which takes approximately 15 minutes, and possibly be named as the "miracle-match" for Harrison.
The family is particularly appealing to individuals of Asian or Filipino descent to respond to their call for help in hopes of finding a match for Harrison.
