Coit Tower Fun Run

(San Francisco, Friday, October 24th, 2008) – As a Pre-event day activity (Saturday, October 25th is the Coit Tower 75th Jubilee Celebration), 50-60 middle-schoolers from the Francisco Middle School will be doing a “fun-run” (1/2 mile up Telegraph Hill). San Francisco Firefighters will join the run in support of the kids and of the Coit Tower Celebration. The run is from the bottom of Telegraph Hill Boulevard to Coit Tower. SF Fire Fighters Local 798 will sponsor the event with t-shirts and pizza afterwards.

The Recreation and Parks Department and San Francisco Fire Department in partnership with other City Departments and SF Fire Fighters Local 798, will be holding the Coit Tower Jubilee Celebration the following day to commemorate the 75th year since the opening of Coit Tower.

“We really enjoy every opportunity we have to work with the youth in our community,” said Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, “particularly as it relates to passing on the rich history and tradition of this great City.”

The run will begin at 10:30AM Friday, October 24, 2008 at Grant and Lombard Streets.
