Street Wellness Response Team

The Street Wellness Response Team launched in January of 2022 with the goal of responding to 911 incidents with a social, medical, or housing nexus. The program, a collaboration between the San Francisco Fire Department and the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), represents an alternative to police-led responses to these incidents.

Teams consist of a Community Paramedic, an EMT, and a Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) specialist.

SFFD Community Paramedics perform medical, behavioral, and social needs assessments, render immediate aid if needed, and with the Homeless Outreach Team specialist, are able to offer direct and meaningful connections to services, housing and care.

As of July 2022, the Street Wellness Response Team is operational City wide, 24 hours per day.
