Fireworks Public Safety Announcement - 2010
Did you know…
- Each year more than 12,000 fireworks-related injuries, half of them children, are treated in hospital emergency rooms. Approximately 26% of the children injured are innocent bystanders.
- Something as simple as a sparkler burns at temperatures of up to 1,800 degrees. Hot enough to melt gold.
- Fireworks cause more than $35 million in property loss each year.
- Possession and use of any firework, including Safe & Sane, is ILLEGAL in San Francisco. It is a crime that is punishable by a fine or incarceration in County jail or both.
The San Francisco Fire Department strongly urges San Franciscans to keep their neighborhoods safe this year. Be smart and leave fireworks to the professionals!
Report all fireworks to the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 553-0123
There ARE safer alternatives to using fireworks on the Fourth of July. Public fireworks displays can be the safest and smartest, and even most economical, fireworks alternative.
