Consul General of Germany Honors San Francisco's Firefighters
As the seventeenth anniversary of the Day of German Unity approaches, a celebration is being planned at the German Consulate in San Francisco to honor the San Francisco Fire Department for their service to the residents and visitors of San Francisco.
The German Consulate, located in beautiful Pacific Heights, will be transformed into a museum, filled with firefighting equipment, photographs and film footage celebrating the past, present and future of the fire service in San Francisco.
A team of firefighters will be performing a 65 ft. wooden ladder demonstration for the six hundred invited guests. Although the 65 ft. ladder was placed out of service several years ago, it is a sight to behold as the officer calls out the commands and, with concise team-work, the ladder is lifted into the air.
The Consul General of Germany, Rolf Schutte, Mayor Gavin Newsom and Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White will be addressing the guests at 5:30 p.m.
