Presented to Fire Department personnel and members of the public for acts of exceptional ability, personal initiative and courage, and for the saving of human life under dangerous conditions. |
After the 1906 Earthquake, this fire hydrant, at the corner of 20th St & Church, was the only hydrant that continued to function. Dubbed the "Little Giant," it's painted gold to commemorate the role it played in saving San Francisco's Mission District. |
In tribute to the bravery and selfless dedication of members of the Fire Department who gave their lives in order to save the lives of others in fires, natural disasters and medical emergencies. |
