San Francisco Fire Department holds AWSS Cistern Demonstration
|DATE:||Thursday, May 20, 2010|
|PLACE:||Intersection of 38th Ave./Geary Blvd.|
As a first line of attack on most fires in San Francisco, the domestic water supply meets the needs of Firefighters. Often times, San Francisco Firefighters are faced with larger fires and they must rely on the invaluable components of the Auxiliary Water Supply System (AWSS) to help them meet their mission, to save property and lives.
There are 177 cisterns strategically placed throughout the City and used by fire engine companies to fight fires. The cisterns are large water holding tanks and are an integral part of the Auxiliary Water Supply System. On Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., the San Francisco Fire Department will demonstrate the use of the AWSS at the cistern located at 38th Ave. and Geary Blvd.
