Assistant Deputy Chief Emily Anderson began her public service career in San Francisco in 2008, working private ambulance transport on a basic life support unit before becoming a paramedic in 2010. She joined the San Francisco Fire Department in 2012, serving in the roles of EMT, Paramedic, and Firefighter/Paramedic.

In 2020, she was promoted to Rescue Captain, serving as the officer at Station 49, the Department's ambulance deployment station. She went on to serve as a Clinical Officer in the Office of Continuous Quality Improvement, a Field Rescue Captain, and an Investigating Officer with the Professional Ethics and Standards Division.

Chief Anderson holds a BSc Environmental Resources Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, and an MSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Davis. She brings a deep passion for and commitment to meeting the diverse EMS needs of the City of San Francisco.
