3rd Alarm Fire – Golden Gate Ave

At 3:14 am on 12/12/2025, San Francisco Fire Department units responded to 50 Golden Gate Ave for a fire in the building.

Upon arrival, first-in companies noted smoke and flames coming from a six-story residential apartment building. A working fire was declared for initial firefighting efforts. Due to heavy fire conditions, a third alarm was called for additional resources. During the initial response, multiple occupants were rescued, and notably, two cats were saved during the second alarm phase. One dog was found alive and healthy during fire watch.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Units on scene continued an aggressive firefighting attack and contained the fire to the building of origin.

As of 4:00 PM on 12/12/2025, 68 people were displaced and assisted by the SF Human Services Agency and Red Cross.

Over 100 firefighters, more than 50 fire apparatus, police officers, and additional city services responded to the scene. Firefighters faced challenges due to the building's old construction, which included multiple light wells, lath and plaster interiors, and heavy fire conditions on the upper floors. This incident exemplified traditional, aggressive firefighting tactics, which ultimately contained the fire within the structure.

Fire investigators responded to the scene and are examining the cause and origin. This fire is under investigation.
