3.04 ERRCS Certification
Reference: 2022 San Francisco Fire Code Sections, 510.1.1, 510.6.1.1, 510.6.1.2 SFFD 2022 AB # 2.01 Addendum G, 2022 NFPA 1225
Purpose: To provide information about certificated ERRCS systems and to set forth interpretations, rules and supplemental regulations to carry out the application of the pertinent codes and standards.
A certificated ERRCS system is one for which an acceptable listing organization has issued a serially numbered certificate to the property owner. The certificate is a tool for assuring the reliability of ERRCS systems.
All ERRCS vendors/contractors/integrators performing ERRCS design, installation, testing and maintenance work in San Francisco shall be provided with an ERRCS certification. A copy of this certification shall be incorporated on all ERRCS permit plans to be submitted for SFFD review and approval per 2022 SFFD AB # 2.01 Addendum G. All new ERRCS systems shall be certificated by an organization that is part of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory Program. A valid and current document/placard/sticker attesting to the certification shall be located on or near the BDA.
ERRCS Systems Installed in Existing Buildings:
Per the 2022 SFFC Section 510.6.1.2: Building owners are required to obtain a certificate for all existing ERRCS systems. Occupancies are required to obtain certification of their existing ERRCS systems as follows:
- All high-rise buildings with an existing ERRCS systems by June 1, 2023.
- All other non-high-rise buildings or structures with existing ERRCS systems by September 1, 2023.
