Fiscal Year 2001-2002
Firefighter Timothy Dudley | Truck 17 |
On the evening of August 14, 2001, Truck 17 responded to a building fire at 1081 Key Avenue. The crew began working on the peaked roof of a three-story structure, where they encountered heavy smoke. As T/Captain Darryl Hunter neared the peak, his left quadriceps tore from the knee. When he put weight on his right leg, the same muscle of that leg also tore, causing him to fall and slide down the peak toward the edge of the roof. FF Dudley reached out and grabbed his powerfully built officer as he slid toward extreme danger and dragged him to a roofing ladder where other crew members could assist him. FF Dudley suffered severe injuries as a result of this rescue.
