San Francisco Fire Department Meritorious Awards Ceremony
**Media Opportunity**
On Thursday, February 24, 2011 the San Francisco Fire Department will host an awards ceremony, recognizing their members for Meritorious Conduct, actions that go above and beyond the call of duty.
“Our members consider everything that they do as their call of duty, but it’s important for them to know that their actions don’t go unnoticed,” said Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White. “Day in and day out, our members do really great things. This is a time that we set aside to acknowledge them and to thank them for upholding the finest traditions of the San Francisco Fire Department…saving lives and property. This is also an opportunity for their families to see why the sacrifices they make to support their loved ones are worth it.”
Awards will be presented for meritorious conduct, on and off-duty, ranging from chasing down and apprehending a knife wielding perpetrator in the crowd at the Giant’s World Series Parade celebration to rescuing people hanging from their windows at the scene of a 4 Alarm fire.
Approximately 350 people are expected to attend the 7:00 PM event which is being held at Archbishop Riordan High School’s Lindland Theatre, located at 175 Phelan Ave.
