2019 Letter of Recognition - FF/PM Timothy M. McHale
On September 6, 2019, E5 responded to a call for a choking toddler. Upon arrival, FF/PM Timothy McHale immediately recognized that the semi-conscious child could not breath adequately and began back blows. His immediate actions partially dislodged some of the food that was choking the two year old child. FF/PM McHale was then able to hand off the child to other members of the crew to direct back blows while he started on other ALS interventions. Once the ambulance arrived FF/PM McHale carried the patient outside and was able to clear more of his airway. The patient required surgery to completely remove the food, and was released two days later in great health. FF/PM McHale’s quick, calm and professional actions saved the two year olds life that evening.
