2021 Class C Medal – Lt. Gregory McFarland (off duty)
On May 28, 2021, Lt. Greg McFarland was in Florida for a Masters Basketball Tournament. While playing in a game, he noticed a member of the opposing team collapse. Lt. McFarland immediately went to him and checked for a pulse. Not finding one, he started CPR. He asked for someone to call 911 and retrieve an AED. A team trainer assisted him by getting the defib. Greg shocked the man 3x, after which he came around, coughing, gasping and even talking. Greg then began first aid on the man’s head wound, which he sustained when he collapsed. EMS arrived and transported the victim to a hospital where he was diagnosed with 3 major artery blockages and received 3 stents. The patient made a full recovery and is back to playing basketball. Without Lt. McFarland’s quick actions this gentleman would not be alive today.
