SAN FRANCISCO - In recognition of Wildfire Preparedness Month and the fast-approaching wildfire season, the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is highlighting its invaluable partnership with the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) and its efforts as an integral wildland fire partner answering the call in times of need.

Through the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System, Cal OES has deployed multiple fire engines to SFFD to assist their efforts locally in the City, but also to help fight wildland, rural wildfires statewide and nationwide.

In 2021, SFFD was instrumental in assisting with statewide wildfires including the Salt Fire (Shasta County), the Dixie Fire and Beckwourth Complex Fire (Plumas County), and the River Complex Fire (Siskiyou County), as well as firefighting efforts outside of California in neighboring states. In addition, Cal OES deployed SFFD Strike Teams to Oregon to help battle the Bootleg Fire and to Montana to aid in fighting 19 large wildfire incidents.

Cal OES coordinates the California Fire and Rescue Mutual Aid System, which moves local government resources across the state in support of all-risk emergency response on behalf of local, state, and federal government fire organizations. Cal OES assigns local government fire agencies with fire apparatus to maintain surge capacity during day-today duties and major events/emergencies.
