SRO Hotel Fire Safety Program

Since 1997, a series of fires in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Hotels occurred in the various neighborhoods resulting in a loss of more than 650 housing units and displacement of over 1000 residents.

The goal of the Fire Department's SRO Hotel Fire Safety Program is to provide SRO residents with the knowledge of basic fire dynamics, prevention techniques, specific aspects of the life safety system present in their hotel, and the proper response before, during and after a fire.
