K9-Clifford, Facility Canine
Clifford is a Chocolate Lab born on Easter 2017 who came to the SFFD after having a handful of different careers in his past. He began his life training to be a hunting dog at Black Cloud Kennels in the central valley. Next he worked as a service dog for a person with a medical condition, and at age 3 began his career as a facility dog in southern California. When his handler there retired, Clifford was paired with the SFFD and handler Colin Carter. He is currently a Facility Canine serving the first responders and people of San Francisco since January, 2023.
Clifford has been trained extensively throughout his life. His most recent training to be a Facility Canine was done with renowned world competitor David Greene of Performance K9 Training through a partnership with the nonprofit Thor’s Hope Foundation called The Firehouse Project.
Clifford loves to be social, and can often be found soliciting firefighters for belly rubs and back scratches when he’s not doing his favorite activity – retrieving his ball. He’s also known to help “clean up” the kitchen floor….thanks Cliff! His calm demeanor and laid-back personality make him an ideal fit as a buddy in the firehouse.
