Julie Mau
Julie Mau joined the San Francisco Fire Department in June 2002. In 2011, she promoted to Lieutenant and also served as a Training Lieutenant at the Division of Training for five recruit academy classes. She promoted to Captain in 2016, and worked for over 20 years in the field, including specialized surf rescue and cliff rescue responses. Her previous assignment was as the Captain of Truck 12 in the Haight-Ashbury District. In 2022, she promoted to Battalion Chief for the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and in 2023 she promoted to Assistant Deputy Chief to lead the SFFD Division of Training.
ADC Mau is a California State Fire Marshal Certified Instructor and Fire Officer, and is also an instructor at City College of San Francisco Fire Science Program.
ADC Mau was born and raised in Hawaiʻi, is a kumu hula, and is active in the San Francisco Hawaiian community. She served as Treasurer, then as President of the United Service Women (an affinity group of the SFFD) from 2013 -2023, and participates at girls fire camps with Camp Blaze and NorCal Women in Fire Service.
She is a graduate of San Francisco State University, and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of San Francisco.
