Possession and use of any firework, is ILLEGAL in San Francisco. It is a crime that is punishable by a fine or incarceration in County jail or both. The San Francisco Fire Department strongly urges San Franciscans to keep their neighborhoods safe this year. Be smart and leave fireworks to the professionals! If you see the source of the fireworks, please report this information so public safety crews can respond.
Report fireworks to 311!
Call 311 in San Francisco to report the use of fireworks, only if you can:
- Report an exact location (address/street name)
- Description of person
ONLY CALL 911 if firework use is an immediate threat to lives and property!
The National Fire Prevention Association reports each year, fireworks injure thousands and cause thousands of fires and in 2018:
- An estimated 19,500 fires started by fireworks were reported to local fire departments in the US
- These fires caused five civilian deaths, 46 civilian injuries, and $105 million in direct property damage.
There are safer alternatives to using fireworks on the Fourth of July, Family Celebrations and Private Events. Public fireworks displays can be the safest and smartest, and even most economical, fireworks alternative.
