The San Francisco Fire Department is mourning the loss of two of its members from Engine Company 26, who were both critically injured during an explosion while bravely fighting a house fire at 133 Berkeley Way in the Diamond Heights neighborhood on June 2, 2011. Both died at the hospital as a result of their injuries after all rescussitative measures were taken by the Emergency Trauma staff at San Francisco General Hospital.
Chief Joanne Hayes-White: “This has been an extremely difficult time for the members of the San Francisco Department. Firefighter/Paramedic Valerio and Lieutenant Perez’s deaths have left all of our members with heavy hearts. They will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with both the Valerio and Perez families as they grieve their losses.”

Lieutenant Perez, aged 48, was a 21 year veteran of the San Francisco Fire Department. Prior to joining the San Francisco Fire Department, Vince served in the United States Marine Corps and as a Deputy Sheriff with Alameda County Sheriff’s Department. Vince was born and raised in San Francisco, attending Archbishop Riordan High School and City College of San Francisco. |

Firefighter/Paramedic Valerio, aged 53, was a 27 year veteran employee for the City of San Francisco, serving 13 years with the Department of Public Health and 14 years with the San Francisco Fire Department. Tony grew up in the Bay Area, attending El Camino High School, City College of San Francisco, and San Francisco State University. |
