EMS Physical Agility Test
San Francisco Fire Department H3 Level 1 EMTs and H3 Level 2 Paramedics must successfully pass the San Francisco Fire Department's Physical Agility Test to be considered for the EMS academy. The EMS PAT is the minimum physical standard. If selected, candidates must be prepared to participate in a physically demanding 8-week academy consisting of aerobic and anaerobic physical training.
Perform the following tasks within a 4 minute and 30 second time limit:
- Pick up and carry three medical bags that cumulatively weigh 70 pounds up six flights of stairs.
- Upon reaching the top of the stairs, place the bags down and proceed to the 165 mannequin, and drag it 15 feet.
- Return to the medical bags, descend the stairs, and carry them back to the starting point.
- Place the medical bags at starting point, proceed to the ambulance, release and pull a 165 loaded gurney out of the ambulance until the landing gear is locked.
- Release hands off gurney, and then return gurney to ambulance using proper technique.
