H2 Firefighter Application
The H2 Firefighter application period closes for the June 2025 Recruit Academy on December 16th.
To be considered for the upcoming academy, candidates must:
1. Submit an application for the H2 Firefighter position opening on the DHR website.
2. Must be current on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List (SEL)
- Pass the FCTC Written Test with a score of 70% or greater within one year of deadline
- Cal-JAC CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) Card within one year of deadline
- NREMT, CA EMT-1, or CA EMT-P
If you are already on the FCTC SEL, you will still need to apply for the H2 Firefighter position.
Additionally, all candidates are advised to update and maintain their DHR SmartRecruiters profile and account.

FCTC maintains SEL, a list of eligible candidates to be used by California fire departments during their hiring process.
The CPAT is timed test measures how candidates handle eight separate events, designed to mirror tasks of a firefighter.
Candidates experiencing financial hardship may qualify for financial aid to pay for their FCTC testing fees.
